When designing a home office space, consider the following:
Location
Will clients and customers be coming in? Can you concentrate with the television in the background? Do you mind climbing stairs to get to your workspace? How much space will you need for your work?
Comfort
Do not choose something just because it is available. Invest in something that will provide comfort and functionality. Does your chair provide back support? Is there enough room around your desk area? Is the lighting adequate?
Organization
Do you have a daily files for all of your work? Is your e-mail set up with folders to simplify your inbox? Do you have an efficient filing system? Can you find anything you file within a reasonable amount of time?
Having the opportunity to work at home eliminates the time involved in commuting, gives you extra flexibility in your schedule, and can allow you more family time.
